MORE QUESTIONS FOR GOV. AKPABIO

For Chief Godswill Akpabio, the executive governor of Akwa Ibom State, this is not actually the best of time. His Easter is celebrated amidst accusations and counter accusations of failed leadership that has resulted in poverty, insecurity as seen in killings and kidnappings across the state.
The situation has been blamed on the administration's inability to curb societal vices and excesses of those in positions of authority. While the government is alleged to have sponsored groups and individuals to sing its praises to railroad its continuity in the face of damming effect of poor policy formulation and inability to utilize huge financial resources accruing into the state for socio-economic and political wellbeing of the citizens, selected individuals however have begun to call on Governor Akpabio to account for his stewardship since his assumption of responsibility in 2007. They are calling for prove of providing the first basic needs of the citizens, the protection of lives and properties in the state, as well as how funds accruing to the state are used.
Another question has trailed the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio. The latest is from a former commissioner in the state and guber aspirant in the 2007 gubernatorial election, Dr. Udoma Bob Ekarika.
Udoma was reacting to the arrest, detention and subsequent arraignment of Chief Ononokpono. In an open letter to the governor, Dr Ekarika said the action of the state governor was uncalled for. Before the questions and subsequent advice, the former commissioner for works and transport said:
“Your Excellency, the idea of arrest in the first place was TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR if truly you run a participatory form of government and secondly if you have good advisers in government.
“The reason is that this is a democratic government and not a dictatorial regime where your subjects can at anytime express their opinions by way of questions or advice as it is in the case”.
Going further, Dr.Udoma Ekarika said: “though people have been going around collecting money from you, assuring you of your second term ambition by way of endorsement, don't you think that you will need the support of the people of Oro Nation? Do you think that with this kind of attitude, the people of Oro nation will rise to support you because they are very happy for the humiliation and embarrassment meted on them?”
The former Commissioner called for an unconditional release and striking off of the suit against Chief Ononokpono.
