Akwa Ibom South: When Service Can Be Trusted

Eket senatorial district will never run dry of personnel with the ability to offer effective representation to her people. It is no longer news that the race for who represents the people of that entity by the next political dispensation has started gathering momentum and the heat is on. Factors that will work in favour of each of the political heavy weights in the area have already been wavering on. As it is, it is believed by some that the battle is directly between the incumbent senator lady Eme Ekaette who has almost conclude plans on how to topple others for her return to the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly and the former first lady of the erstwhile south eastern states chief Mrs. Helen Esuene.
Former special adviser to governor Akpabio on political and legislative affairs Bishop Samuel Akpan can also fall into this class. This is apparently because political watchers believe that it is the turn of Eket federal constituency to produce the senator for the area.
However, faithfuls of the former speaker of the state house of assembly Chief Nelson Effiong will not want to take that. They challenged that Eket federal constituency has gotten enough and to spare share of political representation in this particular government from the federal to the state levels and hence the people of Oron federal constituency deserves a stake in this present political dispensation come 2011 and this they have vowed to ensure that any serious and credible candidate from that constituency will definitely win their heart of hearts.
By this then, they feel they have found in in the wings and and caprices of the man who chaired the legislative chambers of the Akwa Ibom state government for six years while the previous administration lasted. To go by the gospel according to politics for the past three years or so, one may not fault the position of the Oron federal constituency but the argument put up by the people of Eket federal constituency is that, the last administration had been a blessing to the Oron federal constituency therefore if this government had so favoured Eket federal constituency, so be it. Political news will prove this position of Eket correct, wholesale. That is why the battle for the soul of the district seem to be basically a flex of political muscle between the trios who are of Eket federal constituency.
Given the marshals that have lined up for the position, one will again say that if the gospel of 30% position for women according to the written or unwritten law of the PDP is allowed and adhered to religiously, the senator Ekaette and Chief Esuene will have a good playing field to test their popularity. What this means however is that the battle will be directly between the incumbent and the woman who took glamour and decency to the first lady stool as Bishop Akpan will have to sacrifice his intent and bid on the platform of the rules of PDP.

Eket senatorial district will now be in a position to decide who they enthrust their destiny to wether lady Ekaette or chief Esuene. If political connections are the yardstick on which effective representation is hinged, the two have it.

If empowerment is what will determine who goes to the senate they can boast of it, if service delivery is the determining factor can the incumbent really beat her chest to it? While we wait to answer this question one must also not forget in haste that effective representation can only be said to be achieved when the service delivered can be trusted and really trusted indeed. The people of Eket know and should be ready to choose their candidate without any form of fear or favour or any iota of intimidation.

It will be nice omen that whoever gets there offer such service as can be trusted. Now, who is telling us that her service can be trusted, we should send her because that is when quality service will be delivered.
