JONATHAN AND HIS “UNWORTHY” AWARDEES

The Daily Trust of Monday April 26, 2010 page 3 had a story that Jonathan lauded Obasanjo over Aso Villa Chapel. A book titled “The National Alter” a compendium of the history of the Aso Villa Chapel was presented Saturday April 24, 2010 at the Villa, an occasion that marked 10th year anniversary of the Chapel.
Also at the dinner occasion, the acting President Goodluck Jonathan honoured former President Obasanjo with a plaque for his singular effort in building the Chapel. Others honoured include men of God: Professor Yusuf Obaje (the pioneer Chaplain of the Chapel), Rev William Okoye, Professor (Evangelist) Jerry Gana, John Onaiyekan (the Arch Bishop of Abuja) and Pastor E.A. Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

But more curious honourees included Governors Rotimi Amaechi, Godswill Akpabio, Ikedi Ohakim, Martins Elechi, Theodore Orji, Adebayo Alao Akala and Gabriel Suswan. Reading what now seems to be the trademark of Governor Akpabio; he remained the only one that posted his photograph showing as he was receiving the plaque from acting President Jonathan (see front page Nigerian Tribune April 26th) and according to the caption, it was Jonathan handing over an “award for Excellence” to Akpabio. The Daily Trust report signified that Nigerian Tribune applied a wrong caption. In his normal tradition, very soon one may see full page pictorial display, regarding this, in select newspapers as if it was only Akpabio that was honoured at the occasion. It behoves Jonathan to give reasons for honouring the governors so that the public know.
