I really was shocked to notice the names/signatories to a recently published statement that sought to know what former governor of Akwa Ibom, Obong Victor Attah, really wants. The statement failed to convince many of their intentions because they did not do proper analysis before jumping into accepting to be used.
To start with, they exposed their selfish emotions as they were able to count as few, criminal events that happened within eight years of Victor Attah's reign. Can those signatories sincerely compare the enumerable criminal occurrences that have taken place in the Akwa Ibom State within the last two and half years of the present administration? Let us search our minds.
Again, how many serving officials during the Attah regime embraced cultism or were involved in any criminal activity? But in this regime, at least a former Commissioner Dr. Chris Ekong is now standing trial on kidnapping and murder related cases. Neither Ekong nor Akpabio could be said to belong to cult or involved in kidnapping or any other criminal activity while serving as Commissioners under Attah's administration. Let us also take the case in which the daughter (Aniefon) of the current Abak LGA chairman was slaughtered after ransom payment of N10million with tax-payers' money.
According to ThisDay newspaper of May 12, 2009 (page 11), the Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner, Mr. Walter Rubere, confirmed the ransom amount and fingered the immediate past Abak LGA Chairman, who has been at large since then, as the mastermind of the heinous crime. He was an appointee of the present administration.
One has come to the conclusion that those who signed a statement asking to know what Attah really wants must have done so for either pecuniary reasons which would soon unfold. They are just heating up the polity in Akwa Ibom.
