Carry People Along, Etim Okpoyo Tells Akpabio, Jonathan

A former deputy governor in the state, Chief Etim Okpoyo has called on government at all levels to run an inclusive government to bring peace and development in their domain. Chief Okpoyo made the call while speaking with journalists recently on the state of the nation and Akwa Ibom.
Chief Okpoyo who made particular reference to appointment of members of the Federal Executive Council opined that the selection of such individuals should not be the prerogative of the governors alone since such ministerial nominees were to represent the people and assist the presidency in the execution of its responsibilities.
The Oro born politician said Nigeria was in need of effective leadership which can be provided by intellectual individuals and not persons hand-picked to represent individual's interest.
Chief Okpoyo, a former Nigerian ambassador to Italy however justified Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan, in dissolving the Yar'Adua FEC since there was need to inject new hands to assist the acting president especially as the president was not seen or heard of, adding: “I don't think Yar'Adua can still be regarded as Jonathan's principal because for more than four months, despite calls from people like Wole Soyinka and other human rights groups on the president to address the nation, he cannot do so”.
Speaking on the state of development in Akwa Ibom, Chief Okpoyo said Governor Godswill Akpabio should not loose sight of his responsibility to the people of the state in view of glossed praises in the media by sycophants. While calling for respect to political elders in the state and opportunity for the governor to serve his tenure, he regretted that he has not been consulted on decisions in the state. He said; “My own style is to give the present regime a chance to do whatever they are doing. By the time they are finished, they will see that the “hosanna, hosanna” today, will turn to “crucify him” tomorrow. That is the best position, and experience does not lie. When you are in government, people say all sorts of things until when you leave.
“Have you forgotten, “But- for- my- sense- of- geography, I couldn't have known Uyo” slogan in Attah's days? Is anybody saying that today? Nobody!”
The Oro elder statesman said he was not bothered by the fact that he was not carried along by the present administration.
He said; “you run the government; if you think I'm useful to you, please ask me. If you think I'm not useful, please go ahead, I'll do nothing to disrupt you so that you will not have any excuse to say,”Oh! he is disturbing me, they don't allow me to work”.
