SENATOR KEN NNAMANI ON FRAUD IN PDP

Former Senate President Ken Nnamani in The Guardian on Sunday 25/4/10 spoke extensively on the sins of the present PDP NWC. Take this quote of him in the publication: “Let's take Anambra for instance, where we had 47 aspirants. Each of them paid about N5.2million with receipt, with the hope that they will be given a free, fair and credible primary. Was there any primary? Why does the party have to wait until the last minute before they can now impose one person on the candidates (or party) and I am not aware that any person was refunded the N5.2million? Even if they are minting money themselves, won't they run out of it? I am not aware that there is a systematic approach in refunding the money and what did that money achieve? Is that not a source of embarrassment that you couldn't conduct a primary in one state?”

This money which PDP NWC collected from the aspirants who were finally denied proper primary amounted to N244million (47 x N5.2m). Could it be one of the reasons that anti-party statement credited to Senator Annie Okonkwo could not be visited with the penalty it deserved; in which case he was right? But what of the anti-party statements of Governor Godswill Akpabio and Chief Don Etiebet wherein they canvassed openly that Anambra people should vote Obi back into office and not Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the PDP candidate?

PDP as it constitutes today, is increasingly noted as a party that tolerates indiscipline among members but at the same pretends to discipline selectively, members who are positively outspoken; hence those said to belong to the PDP Reform Forum were singled out for punishment? This puzzle remains what most stakeholders are looking up to solve.
