-Ekpaha Bone Centre To Be Upgraded
The member representing Uyo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elder Bassey Etim, last Sunday took Udokang worship centre of the Assemblies of God church by storm when he led members of the constituency to donate cash to destitutes selected from churches within the constituency as part of his empowerment programme for the month of April.
Beneficiaries of the cash donation which ranged from N10,000 to N150,000 while speaking with the press shortly after the exercise which was watched by clergies from different denominations, described themselves as destitute who survived by the grace of God and the mercy of their different churches. They described the cash donation by the two term lawmaker as an answer to their prayers and dedication to the service of God adding that it will go a long way to reduce their suffering.
Twenty in number, the beneficiaries met luck courtesy of Elder Bassy Etim Foundation, chaired by Rev. Pat Udofia. Speaking before the donation, Rev. Pat said the programe which he called, 'Monthly Package for the Less Privilege', has come to stay having been proven as the best possible and reliable way of reaching genuine needy in the constituency monthly. The speaker told the crowd who stayed back to watch the exercise that: ''Testimonies in letters, calls and commendations abound since Elder Bassey Etim started the foundation.
We have urged our amiable lawmaker and Elder to also touch the less privilege just as he did to the politicians, and we are happy about him because through him God has raised many people from their hopeless situations to laughter. Next month is yet another time out somewhere else. If you are not among those visited today, don't worry, our package shall reach you soon. Your pastor will send you to us and we shall touch your life through this foundation', He promised. In a cornered chat with Global Concord, Rt Hon.Elder Bassy Etim said effective representation of his constituency and enhancing their living standard has been his passion and spoke extensively on his foundation. He said: “The representation of the people goes beyond being a politician. It also involves reaching out to every one including the poor and the needy.
And so as an elder of the church and the representative of the people of Uyo Federal Constituency, I felt that it is high time we reach out to the less privilege in our midst especially the orphans, the widows and needy ones who may not be able to struggle with us out there in Abuja or out there in the field. So I see this as an opportunity to touch them and this program is a monthly programme and we have it in various dimensions. We have the one for the bone fracture victims like what you have seen today where a cheque of N150,000 is donated to the bone fracture victim, and then there is a centre at Nung Udoe where we are putting together and we are going to drill a borehole.
The contract for the borehole has been awarded to be dug at Ekpaha Bone Specialist at Nung Udoe, Ibesikpo Asutan and we are going to set up befitting toilet with water system in that place because some of the people if you go there, they have stayed for more than five years, ten years and without having access to television and a lot of things and that made us that time to create television viewing centre to the place. So this group of people needs to be touched. As a representative of the people, we assist them to get employment in Federal Parastatals and Ministries, then a lot of testimony abounds everywhere.
Also, we assist those who have scholarship to study abroad by giving them support. We even facilitate some of them to get admission abroad and as I speak, so many of them have studied in London, USA and other parts of the world. So this is part of our own programmes. while touching the lives of politicians, we do not forget the ones who may not be able to join us out there.
The climaxed with the launching of a book titled, ”Should a true Christian Be a politician?” authored by Rev Ededet Ndon Umoh, CAN chairman for Itu.
