Former Commissioner for Works and Transport in the immediate past administration, Hon (Dr) Udoma Bob Ekarika says he has no aspiration to serve as running mate to Senator John James Akpanudoedehe of Positive Change in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
Udoma who is also former Commissioner for Health stated this in an interview with Global Concord while reacting to insinuations that the public endorsement of Senator John James Akpanudoedehe by ex governor Victor Attah recently was to give the ex governor a leeway to plant Udoma, his son-in-law, as running mate to Senator Udoedehe.
Udoma in the interview described the rumor as baseless aimed at tarnishing the image of the ex governor and bringing public disaffection to the grand reception of Senator Edehe and subsequent endorsement by Obong Attah.
He said: “That is rubbish. That is a stupid lie. It is that same evil campaign to mudsling Obong Attah's image that has been the sole aim of this government. For anybody to think that Attah wants to launch himself back to government, that is nonsense… Everybody knows that everything has its tenure, Obong Attah has finished his tenure but is still very much relevant in the politics of Akwa Ibom State and government is continuous; not necessary that you are not in government because you are not a governor or you are not a deputy governor.
Government is in stages as far as I'm concerned. So in this country today, Obong Attah is still very much, I mean very much relevant in any way, any how you want to put it. Though I don't want to hold brief for Obong Attah, I'm talking as it affects me, because you've mentioned that 'oh they say I want to be governor or deputy governor to Senator Akpanudoedehe', I don't intend, please I don't intend, tell them I am not interested and they should not use the endorsement to insult Obong Attah again”.
Udoma who contested the 2006 gubernatorial election maintained that those behind the speculation were paid by government to cast aspersion on the revered personality of Attah. Udoma used the occasion to state his interest and commitment to ensure the emergence of Senator Udoedehe as governor in the state come 2011, adding that such was the only way of solving the numerous political crisis, economic, social and general maladministration in the state.
He told Global Concord “However, tell them that I'm going out frontally to support Senator John James Akpanudoedehe because he is a Christian and he beliefs in God…. I want to tell you as far as I'm concerned, John Udoedehe is the man that God has brought to make a change in this state and what Akwa Ibom needs today is change and that change is coming”.
